Solutions to Screen Choking Problem During Course of Pigment Printing
Screen choking problems are sometimes to be seen during course of printing, how to address and shoot the trouble is very important.
You need to firstly work out the factors that may relate to choking problem, and sort out the real cause for it.
1.Observe presentations of screen choking.
1.1 In case white straps comes out gradually when printing, then the problem may relate directly with printing thickener/pigment thickener or Stirring&swelling time of stock paste.
1.1.1 Incomplete reacted printing thickener. During production of pigment thickener, the reaction procedure is incomplete, so quality of printing thickener is not good, not so easy to be swelled and some big particles will always be there in printing paste,hence block printing screens.
1.1.2 Stirring & swelling time of stock paste. When preparing stock paste, stirring and swelling time is not enough, and printing thickener/pigment thickener is not fully swelled into paste, some still remain the particle size bigger than holes of printing meshes. To avoid such problem, getting the thickener well stirred and swelled is of the most importance, when preparing stock paste. Ideal conventional stirring time is 5-6 minutes for short-chain printing thickener and 15-20 minutes for long-chain or concentrated printing thickener.
1.2 In case there is some clear white straps appears from certain screens, then there might be some impurities in printing paste. In this case, you have to go further into below aspects to identify the real problem.
1.2.1 Get pigment paste filtered with 150# or 200# mesh to see whether there is some big particles or impurities.
1.2.2 Get printing paste filtered with 150# or 200# mesh to see whether there is any impurities.
1.2.3 Check pH of printing paste. Make sure whether printing paste is in alkalescence pH,between 7-7.5, with digital pH meter, as in printing recipe, polyacrylate binder is used, some binders are very quick going into film under acidulous pH and block the screen. To prevent binder from going into film easily, 0.3%-0.5% ammonia water is recommended to adjust the PH of printing paste to alkalescence level.
2. Go through and make sure all printing chemicals are authentically chosen, including printing thickener, pigment thickener, pigment binder and pigment paste. If screen choking happens frequently you may need to consider changing some of them. Here are some of remarkable items to recommend,
